Being in nature is a moment of joy. Nature is a place of rest and silence and at the same time a source of activities and sounds. The crack of a branch mixed with the whisper of the wind. Birds twitter and sing as if it is the last day of their life. Then it is suddenly silent and I am astonished as to where they have gone. Each day I enjoy what nature offers me. I want to remember these moments by capturing them on (digital)film and I want to share my feelings with everyone who wants to see or to hear it. Wim Olyslager

I was born in 1962 at Enschede, a City located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. At the age of twelve I got my first camera, an Olympus OM1. In those days, I often walked through the forest and the countryside of Enschede in my free time. I was fascinated by birds and butterflies. I was curious and inquisitive, so I was eager to get knowledge about the lives and behavior of these creatures. I read many books concerning animals and other nature topics. Between the age of 18 and 35 there was a large break, in which other things where more important than photography. In this period I exchanged my OM1 for a nikon F801, a super camera. I mainly photographed common objects like my family, holidays and other occasions. Blood is thicker than water. My love for nature and photography though has never ended. In my late thirties I have taken up nature photography very fanatically. Like many other nature photographers, I also am a selfmade photographer. I have learned by practising as much as possible. My love for birds and butterflies is still present, but has been extended to more photographic aspects and point of views. I like to capture patterns and compositions, lights and contrasts in nature. I have also taught myself other topics that support my photography such as image editing and other techniques. I hope that you will enjoy the photographs as much as I did making them. Kind regards, |
